Smart Fortwo Review

Today, we are going to talk about the iconic Smart Fortwo. We will analyse the Fortwo under three main categories such as; The Features of the Smart Fortwo, The Fuel Consumption of the Smart Fortwo and Does It Suits You? Before beginning to the analysis, let’s get some general information about Smart Fortwo. It is manufactured by the Smart brand of the Daimler AG. It designed as a three doored, two seated hatchback car which called as Smart City Coupe until 2004. Smart manufactured 1.7 million Fortwo which has been sold in 46 country around the world. The main design purpose of the Smart Fortwo was creating a Microcar type vehicle which has capacity for two persons. Fortwo name derived from this purpose. Fortwo refers to ‘For Two Persons’.

The Features of the Smart Fortwo

Let’s talk about the feature of the Smart Fortwo. It is designed as a Microcar, so it can fit almost anywhere on the streets. For two has a basic but also attractive body design which his curvy and two colours detailed. This feature makes Fortwo simple and distinguishable with a classy look. On front side, curvy detailed daylight LED function matches perfectly with body design. If we check out the interior design, the first point which gets our attention is the customizable interior colour option. With this feature you are going to feel positive when you drive Fortwo thanks to the energetic colour options. On the other hand, the console design of the Fortwo is so simplistic but clever. Main console has a drawer system at side panels which can carry unnecessary stuff and when you close them, they provide a good amount of cabin space. Also, ambient lightning (which is optional for different luxury packages) makes a sophisticated atmosphere in cabin when the weather gets dark. As an absence we can say that, Fortwo doesn’t have a Multimedia System in it. For solution, you can use Smart Cross Connect Application as a Multimedia Command Centre on your smartphone. The technological features are important for Smart too. Fortwo has some features for a comfortable driving experience. Lane Keeping Assist is one of them, which detects and warns you when you cross over lanes. Another important feature is Crosswind Assist which helps you to keep on track in strong winds. Finally, The Hill Start Assist which prevent the back roll movement when you try to take off on a hill. As a safety feature, Tridion Safety Cell is a key point. It designed to protect passenger and driver in critical circumstances such as; accidents.

The Fuel Consumption of the Smart Fortwo

Now, we are going to talk about the fuel consumption of the Smart Fortwo. For an effective analysis, we must have some information about the engines. Then we can make an effective analysis. Smart Fortwo has two standard engine options which are; 0.9 Turbo and 1.0. We are going to examine both engine and their fuel efficiencies. Let’s start with the 0.9 Turbo. It is a three cylindered, 898 cm3 sized, Petrol type engine which produces 90 Horsepower and 5500 RPM Torque. According to the official factory data, 0.9 Turbo has got a 4.9lt/100km (which refers to 58 MPG in UK) fuel consumption rate in Urban usage. However, this MPG rate decreasing to 3.8lt/100km (which refers to 74 MPG in UK) in Extra Urban usage such as; Highways and Long Distance Trip. When we combine these two data we get a 4.2lt/100km (which refers to 67 MPG in UK) average fuel consumption rate. At the second place, we are going to focus on 1.0. It is a three cylindered, 999 cm3 sized, Petrol type engine which produces 71 Horsepower and 6000 RPM Torque. 1.0 has got a 5.1lt/100km (which refers to 55 MPG in UK) MPG Performance in Urban usage. On the other hand, this fuel efficiency rate rising to 3.8lt/100km (which refers to 74 MPG in UK) in Extra Urban usage. When we gather these two data we get a 4.3lt/100km (which refers to 66 MPG in UK) average MPG data.

Does It Suits You?

If you ask me, I would say it depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a huge sized family car with a compact car performance, I can say that try a different brand. Smart Fortwo is mainly targeting the people who doesn’t care the size of the vehicle and the performance of the vehicle. If you are looking for a mini car with a simple design which can fits to everywhere and low cost about fuel consumption, Fortwo can satisfy your expectations!
